Moment

Characters: K-REV Radio Announcer
Michael K-REV Radio Announcer Jacob K-REV Radio Manager
Carrie
Summary:
K-REV Christian Radio Announcers Michael and Jacob—stars of the
famous Mike and Jake’s Morning Show—has an embarrassing moment.
(K-REV Announcers Mike and Jake are seated at an
angled table, stage-left with 2 microphones
facing them on the table. Both
Mike and Jake are wearing large headphones covering their ears.)
MIKE You’re listening to the Mike & Jake’s Morning
Show on the All-new Digital Family-friendly Christian Radio Network
K-REV. Today we are talking about
forgiveness. What K-REVelation do people have about forgiveness?
JAKE I think I know what most of our listeners
think about forgiveness, Mike.
MIKE Okay, Jake, I’ll bite.
What do most of our listeners think about forgiveness?
JAKE They like it.
They ask for it all of
the time, so they must like it.
MIKE You mean when one of our listeners calls in, they say
something like—
JAKE Yessiree, Mike! They say, “Forgive me for
bothering you.” So they
must like it.
MIKE I
see, so you see it that they are using it as a way to soften you up so
they can get on the air?
JAKE
Exactly, Big Mike.
Mike? I need to ask you something.
MIKE Anything for my
best friend.
JAKE Please forgive me for calling you Big Mike.
MIKE And I respond to you with a big, “I forgive you, little Jake.”
(laughs out loud)
JAKE We are going to break now for a
major announcement from K-REV’s Chief Executive Officer. (pauses)
MIKE Jake, did you hear about what the CEO did, and why’s he’s stepping
down?
JAKE Actually, no I haven’t heard a thing.
I was up late last night reading a book and then I was almost late
to work this morning.
MIKE (leans over, almost whispering) The
CEO was caught taking a bunch of the donations people have made to K-REV.
JAKE No way.
MIKE Way!
You saw his new Mercedes?
JAKE Actually I think I’ve seen
two of them.
MIKE Right! He
bought ‘em both with cash, last month.
JAKE Wow.
(Carrie
walks on stage-right)
MIKE Then, you wanna hear the most juicy
thing?
JAKE He took that cruise with—
CARRIE (motions
her hand across her throat to cut them off)
Gentlemen, you were still live on the air.
I’ve switched it over to the CEO’s announcement.
MIKE Ohhhh, my….
JAKE Goodness gracious,
indeed.
CARRIE Looks like Jake forgot to switch over to the
CEO’s recording. After your
show today, I need to see both of you in my office.
MIKE and JAKE
Yes, ma’am.
CARRIE I am letting you finish this show.
I am not so sure about tomorrow. (Carrie exits stage right)
MIKE You’re listening to the Mike & Jake’s Morning Show on the
All-new Digital Family-friendly Christian Radio Network K-REV.
Well, Jake, how about that announcement from our CEO?
We’re expanding K-REV into the biggest radio market in the
country—New York City. Isn’t
that exciting?
JAKE I am pumped.
I heard we get to go there and do a live show.
MIKE We
do? That’s awesome.
JAKE Mike, I think you have something to tell me and our wonderful,
faithful audience.
MIKE Oh, you mean about the little
conversation we had before the CEO’s Announcement?
JAKE Yes.
MIKE It wasn’t all that big of a deal, I was just—
JAKE
Come on, Mike. We were just
talking about forgiveness. Mike, look at me.
MIKE What do you
mean?
JAKE Come on, just look at me.
MIKE Okay, what
are you doing?
JAKE Mike, please forgive me.
I was wrong to let you tell me all those things without stopping
you. Please forgive me for not
switching over to the CEO’s announcement.
MIKE That’s really
admirable of you, Jake. In
fact, it’s kind of humbling.
Please forgive me for telling you all this gossip.
Gossip is evil.
JAKE Yes sir, it is.
I turn it around, and call it “sipping on the goss.”
Goss means ‘spit’.
MIKE Gross!
JAKE Exactly.
The Bible says in Proverbs 20:17:
Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall
be filled with gravel.
MIKE So the gossip we partook in tasted sweet at first, but now I
feel like my mouth is filled with gravel.
JAKE It was definitely
an embarrassing moment.
MIKE I have an idea!
JAKE Oh,
oh.
MIKE No, seriously.
We need to humbly go to our boss and ask for mercy.
JAKE
Yes, forgiveness.
